This one of a kind piece was created from a vintage paneled door section and an old fruit picking bucket. The door was trimmed and sanded to reveal it's current color combination of ivory, white, beige, and some dark reddish brown stained areas. The center panel was replaced with factory made, porcelain coated steel chalkboard. The chalkboard is heavy duty & magnetic (not chalkboard craft paint).
The lettered design on this piece was inspired by the use of the fruit picking bucket (which is marked "Handy Picking Bucket - Fruit Picking Equipment Co., Lawrence Michigan). Perhaps a small country inn with an orchard may have had such a piece in it's housekeeping area - thus, "Orchard Bounty Hotel" was chosen.
On the bottom panel, an old fruit picking bucket has been attached using 2 window latches that have been fashioned into "hooks". The bucket is easily removeable from these hooks. The bucket has an original canvas section at the bottom that hooks & unhooks to 2 latches on either side of the metal portion. The original user of this bucket wore the bucket (which had shoulder straps attached) on the front of them, and would drop the fruit into the bucket. To release the fruit, the 2 side ropes were unhooked from the metal latches, and the fruit would fall from the bottom opening in the canvas.
The canvas section has been removed, laundered, and reattached; however surface stains are still present. For practical purposes - use this bucket in your mudroom or kitchen to collect your soiled laundry from the kitchen and powder room - towels, cloth napkins, etc. Easily remove the bucket to transport the laundry to your laundry room.
Leave messages or requests amongst your family members on the chalkboard, and hang your coats, bags, dog leases, aprons, etc., on the 4 schoolhouse style hooks mounted to either side.
This is a great piece to add one of a kind style & function to your kitchen, hallway, mudroom, etc.! 28.25" wide by 44.5" tall (wood portion); projects roughly 9" from the wall including the bucket; bucket hangs down below the bottom of the wood portion roughly 6" when the canvas section is closed - so the total length (including the closed canvas bag) is ~50.5". Hangs using 2 reinforced keyhole slots routed into the back side.
This piece ships in 2 separate boxes (one for the main portion and one for the bucket). Discounted local delivery within the Chicago metro area is available - email amy@secondchanceart.net to inquire. |
