This unique piece was created from a 9 pane craftsman style window - originally a removeable window from a storm door. It has been refinished with dark stain - however, much character still remains within the wood frame. Beneath the window, a vintage map of the world is displayed. The map has significant patina - there are some areas of fading and small tears along fold lines; white portions of the map are now a beautiful sepia tone, and the main body of the map is a robbin's egg blue/green.
Though there is no date printed on this map. However, the origin date can be estimated around 1957-58, based on the cartography of the map. The country of Ghana is displayed; Ghana was formerly named "Gold Coast," a change that took place in 1957. French Equitorial Africa, which dissolved in 1958, is still displayed on this map though - giving clues to the map's origin date around 1957-58.
Lettering has been painted on the glass: "Hammond's International Map of the World" at the top, and "Circa 1957-1958" at the bottom. Select major cities have also been painted onto the glass: Tokyo, Sydney, New York, Buenos Aires, London, Cape Town, Moscow, and Calcutta.
