This piece was created from a reclaimed window sash and an authentic vintage French grain sack. The window frame has been refinished with dark stain, which has absorbed unevenly in places, lending character to this piece. Displayed beneath the glass is a portion of a vintage grain sack from France (not a reproduction sack). This sack has a lot of original character, including an area at bottom right where a patch was applied from the inside. The printing on the grain sack is somewhat faded and reads "Moulins de Vers-Ars; Le Pin (Isere), J Bret & Fils, 1962." This printing inspired the hand painted lettered design which reads "Boulangerie; 917 Route des Moulins, Established (1962)." In English, this means "Bakery, 917 route of mills (a street address), established (1962)." The printing on the sack indicates that it came from Le Pin, France. This is a small town in the department (similar to a county?) of Isere, in France. The street "Route des Moulins" was chosen, as this is an actual street in the town of Le Pin. "Established" was added above the grain sack's printed date of 1962 - perhaps this fictional bakery was started around this time!
