Down Street Station door art - $1395





This special edition piece was created from a portion of a vintage door with a large frosted glass window. (See the before picture in the "additional photos" link below). The wood has been refinished with dark stain. The original design has been hand painted in black and metallic copper colors. There is a rope light recessed around the back side of the frame, giving off a subtle glow from within. The light plugs into a standard wall outlet, and can be removed from the piece if desired. A vintage doorknob escutcheon plate and a vintage push plate have also been mounted to the bottom edge (right side). The design was inspired by photos of a decommissioned underground station in London, England. Down Street Station was no longer in service by the 1940's - but was used by Winston Churchill's cabinet during WWII for meetings. Photos of the station show lettering painted on the hallway walls, including "offices," "way out," and "enquiries & committee room," etc. The station was originally operated as part of the Picadilly line, which continued onto the Holborn, Kings Cross, and Finsbury Park stations. This piece would make an excellent addition to your living room, den, or family space. Restaurant owners should consider this piece for ambience behind the bar!
