Bistro -Window Chalkboard Combo w/ Grain Sack





This piece was created from a vintage 2 pane window and grain sack. The window frame has been refinished with a dark stain. The top pane is backed with a portion of an authentic vintage French grain sack, circa 1962 (not a reproduction). The date is not printed on this sack, but was printed on the opposite side (not shown). The sack has an emblem printed in red that indicates it was used by an agricultural cooperative in the commune (town) of Chalon sur Saone. There is an original patch on this sack, which adds to it's character. The hand painted lettered design on the glass is meant to evoke something that could be found at a casual French bistro. "189 Rue de Thiard - Bistro - dejuner ~ diner" has been hand painted onto the top pane. The street Rue de Thiard is an actual street in the commune (town) of Chalon sur Saone in France; however, a fictional address (189) was chosen. "Dejuner ~ Diner" translates to "Lunch ~ Diner". The bottom pane has been fitted with a black magnetic chalkboard (see link below for more info on the chalkboard material). "plats du jour" has been painted in white onto the chalkboard; this means "daily specials" in French. A great piece to add function and French style to your kitchen or eating area! 28" wide x 63" tall; hangs using 2 keyhole slots routed into the back side of the frame.
